Providing Professional Development, Options for Behavior Intervention

  • tosp winter 2026

School psychologists have the knowledge and training to collaborate with colleagues and provide resources to support educators in a variety of areas. Specifically, school psychologists are uniquely positioned to support educators through collaboration, consultation, and the promotion of effective, evidence-based interventions. The NASP Practice Model (2020) emphasizes this role in Domains 2, 4, and 9. Domain 2 of the NASP practice model requires school psychologists understand how to collaborate with colleagues to promote effective implementation of services (National Association of School Psychologists, 2020). Additionally, Domain 4 of the NASP practice model requires school psychologists understand mental and behavioral health to the extent that they can collaborate with others to promote strategies and services that enhance student behavioral health (NASP, 2020). Finally, Domain 9 of the NASP practice model requires school psychologists understand research to the extent that they are able to determine whether interventions are effective in order to support colleagues in the implementation of research-based strategies/interventions (NASP, 2020). One framework that closely aligns with these domains is Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
