Early school experiences in the United States include children transitioning from preschool to kindergarten. Adjusting from preschool to kindergarten brings new requirements (Quintero & McIntyre, 2010) as children begin to take on the traditional role of a student (Eckert et al., 2008) while being expected to focus on more academic skills (Quintero & McIntyre, 2010). They must also adapt to new people, routines, behavior, and social expectations (Garber et al., 2022). These changes are true for all children transitioning from preschool to kindergarten.
