This presentation aims to explore current AI uses among Ohio School Psychologists Association members and provide actionable guidance for ethical and effective AI adoption. Drawing from the American Psychological Association's AI evaluation checklist and Ohio's AI in Education Coalition Toolkit, the session will discuss how school psychologists should evaluate AI tools for alignment with ethical, practical, and educational objectives. Attendees will learn to assess AI tools for compliance with minimal standards as outlined by the APA and ODEW. Participants will then engage in hands-on practice to enhance their understanding of responsible AI integration.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand Current AI Applications: Identify how OSPA members currently utilize AI and evaluate its benefits and limitations in school psychology practice.
2. Apply Evaluation Frameworks: Learn to utilize APA’s AI evaluation checklist and Ohio's AI Toolkit to assess AI tools for ethical compliance, functionality, and effectiveness.
3. Enhance AI Literacy: Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate AI resources for adherence to established AI governance standards.
4. Engage in Hands-On Practice: Participate in practical exercises to apply AI to real-world scenarios, fostering confidence in making informed decisions about AI tools.

Presenter:  Adam Lockwood, PhD

Adam B. Lockwood, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of School Psychology at Kent State University. Adam received his Ph.D. in School Psychology from Northern Arizona University. He also completed a pre-doctoral internship through the Louisiana School Psychology Internship Consortium, and a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) post-doctoral psychology fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Before moving to Ohio, Adam worked as a school psychologist in California and as a faculty member in the Psychology Department at Western Kentucky University. He has a passion for working with individuals with autism and their families, as well as with Native American stakeholders. Adam’s current research focuses on the role of artificial intelligence in psychological and educational practice. Additionally, Adam currently serves on NASP’s Artificial Intelligence Taskforce.
