Recorded Conference Session, Spring 2026, Friday A.M. - SP Consultants, Deafblindness

This 3-hour recorded conference session will be available for viewing through 10/24/26 and includes the following presentations:

Regional Highlights from the School Psychologist Consultants
Presenters: Presenters: Kimberly Altobelli, Dr. Kara Parker, Sara Johnson, Mieghan Stevens, Sara Hiatt

More Than Meets the Eye or Ear: Exploring Issues Unique to Children With Deafblindness and Their Families.
Presenter: Melinda Wolford PhD, NCSP

This session will explore the unique developmental, educational, and family-system considerations of children with deafblindness, offering practical insights school psychologists can use to improve assessment, access, and collaboration. Most of us were trained to think about vision or hearing, but for these children,
the world works very differently—and so do learning, behavior, communication, and family life. This presentation is not about creating experts in deafblindness. It’s about helping see what might otherwise be missed—especially when a child’s behavior, engagement, or progress doesn’t make sense through a traditional lens. Families are often navigating multiple systems all at once— usually while advocating harder than anyone else in the room.

Attendees will be able to:

  • Have a clearer understanding of how deafblindness impacts development and daily functioning;
  • Use a stronger lens for partnering with families;
  • Obtain practical tools to support access, not just compliance.

Once logged in, conference attendees who have paid for Friday Only or Both Days, or those who have purchased this as a standalone video will be able to see the presentation below.
