This 2 hour recorded conference session will be available for viewing through 10/24/26 and includes the following presentation:
Decoding Dyscalculia & Dysgraphia: No Math Degree or Red Pen Required
Presenter: Darla DeCarlo
This session provides a concise, practitioner-focused overview of the Feifer Assessment of Mathematics (FAM) and the Feifer Assessment of Writing (FAW)—two
neuropsychologically based instruments designed to explain why students struggle with math and writing rather than simply measuring how well they perform. Together, the FAM and FAW equip school psychologists with deeper insight into the neuropsychological foundations of math and writing performance, supporting data-driven evaluation, defensible report writing, and informed educational decision making.
Attendees will be able to:
- Appreciate the neuropsychological foundations of the FAM and FAW
- Identify the key cognitive processes assessed within the FAM and FAW
- Distinguish the diagnostic purpose of the FAM and FAW from traditional academic achievement tests
- Apply knowledge of the FAM and FAW to inform targeted educational interventions.
