Recorded Webinar: Key Considerations for Ethical Practice in School Psychology

Despite the durability of school psychologists’ concerns about such ethical issues as confidentiality, administrative pressure, and assessment practices, the environment in which we practice has undergone significant change. This presentation will examine how contemporary professional practice has been influenced by evolving trends, and invites participants to reflect on these trends as they appear in their own experiences.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify how ethical challenges have (and have not) changed in the contemporary practice of school psychology;
  • Describe the impact of current ethical issues and related events on the role and function of school psychologists;
  • Identify major trends in professional knowledge and practice, and the circumstances and events that have contributed to them; • Explain how your daily professional practice has been influenced by emerging trends, and cite potential solutions to observed challenges.

Presenter:  Kathy McNamara, Ph.D.

Recently retired from Cleveland State University, where she served as a professor and director of the School Psychology program, and as Associate Dean of the College of Sciences and Health Professions. Dr. McNamara chaired the NASP Ethical & Professional Practices Committee, authored several chapters on professional practice, and published research on school psychology service delivery models. She served on numerous committees and task forces for OSPA and NASP, and was a recipient of OSPA’s Clyde V. Bartlett Distinguished Service Award. She currently directs a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute promoting inclusive teaching practices among university faculty.
