The Art of School Psychology - Dr. Alex Thomas

A thorough grounding in science is necessary, albeit not sufficient, to succeed as a practitioner school psychologist. Scientists and scientist-practitioners both know that tomatoes are classified as fruit but the practitioner does not put tomatoes in fruit salad. You can complete the finest graduate program available, know everything contained in all professional journals, and memorize Best Practices in School Psychology; yet that would not assure that you would be a maximally effective school psychologist. The art of school psychology is outlined.

Dr. Thomas is currently Professor Emeritus in Educational Psychology at Miami University. He has been co-editor of all five editions of Best Practices in School Psychology and the first two editions of Children's Needs: Psychological Perspectives.

This video was taken at the Spring Conference of the Ohio School Psychologists Association (OSPA) in Columbus, Ohio on April 19, 2012 and was filmed and edited by Chris Sweeney.
