Scholarship Taskforce

The Ohio School Psychologist Association $1,000 annual scholarship is funded primarily by the Fall Conference Raffle. In addition, if the stock market investments from our portfolio held and managed by The Columbus Foundation produce capital gains that also increases our principal balance. This year’s market downturn demonstrated the fragility of this undertaking. Fortunately last Fall’s Raffle yielded just shy of $5,000 which offset the market losses. However, this is not always an assured outcome, therefore contributions made by individuals or regional associations would be greatly welcomed. Especially in these difficult economic times, not only is the awarding of this scholarship an honor, a great addition to one’s vitae, but can assist with a second year student’s expenses prior to the internship year.

If contributions are made to the OSPA Scholarship Fund, they should be made to The Columbus Foundation to the address listed below. Diane Higginbotham is our contact person. Any contribution check should be made out to The Columbus Foundation with a notation that it is for the Ohio School Psychologist Association Scholarship. That will avail you a tax credit document for individuals, and if applicable, to your regional association as well.

We thank you for your support of this worthy undertaking.

At the recent OSPA Fall Conference, we conducted the traditional Scholarship Raffle. Publishers, regions, and university trainers donated significant and interesting items, which resulted in great interest on the part of the attendees.
I am happy to report that we far exceeded previous raffle records as at the conclusion we generated $4911, which was deposited with The Columbus Foundation, which manages our monies and scholarship operational procedures.
We also awarded our first $1,000 scholarship to Ryan P. Taylor, a second year student at the University of Toledo. This awarding was the culmination of much hard work, and generosity on the part of OSPA members and was given with great pride.
I would like to thank all who contributed to our raffle. Without the full participation of the donors, we would not be able to provide an Ohio School Psychologist Association Scholarship to worthy students. We look forward to next year with hopeful anticipation for another wonderful raffle and the awarding of our second scholarship. Remember that the applications are sent to the University training sites by March 1. First year students may apply by June 1, 2009, as the scholarship will be awarded during their second year of training. If you know someone whom you believe is a worthy candidate, please encourage him or her to apply.
Attached is a list of the raffle winners, and my introductory remarks about our first scholarship recipient.
Again, I express my most heartfelt gratitude for your support over the years, and for the enthusiasm and generosity, which so many have displayed. Together we made this happen.
