OSPA Child Advocacy
Committee
|
Chairperson:
Gayle Vonderembse
This year our committee is committed to assisting
with the initiative for increased mental health services in the
schools. Members of the committee, including myself, have joined
regional action networks in promoting multiple projects to support
the mental health needs of children. Some of the projects include:
- Creation of a Youth Speakers Bureau to discuss their personal
experiences with mental health or their experiences with friends
or siblings who have had/have a severe emotional/organic brain
disorder. This group recently presented to a state panel on
mental health and were exceptionally well received.
- Development of a "Mental Health Wellness Translator"
to assist teachers in developing interventions for teachers.
- Creation of a Mental Health Curriculum for teachers.
- Development of a kid friendly website to help children learn
about mental health issues. The site can be accessed at seemehearmyfeelings.com
